Project Sailing Tide
With the Sailing Tide project we would like to ask you to support us in our dream
The circumnavigation of the world
Everything about the project
The thought
LIFE must OFFER more.
We cannot accept being trapped in a 9-5 job for the rest of our lives and perhaps not having the strength or courage to start something new when we retire.
Thus, in 2023, triggered by a key experience, the idea of breaking out of the social hamster wheel was born.
We decided to do something unique, to experience more and leave the daily grind behind us.
I (Tino) have been a diver for many years and therefore have an affinity for the sea. Inspired by YouTube videos about long voyages and circumnavigations, the idea for the "Sailing Tide" project with our own circumnavigation was born.
My wife Denise found the idea of breaking out of the rat race very appealing. Since she is very spontaneous and open, she immediately found the idea appealing.
Now we are starting the Sailing Tide project together.
The initial situation
Now we were faced with the question of how we could implement our plan. A sailing boat is expensive and needs constant maintenance. You also have to earn a living while on the move.
With both of us working 9-5 jobs and a school-age teenager, we wondered how this would all be possible. It was never an option that our child would not complete his compulsory schooling before we set off on a round-the-world trip. So we decided to use the time until then to prepare for our round-the-world trip as best as possible. The decision to set up an online shop for sailing equipment was made.
The online shop is intended to help us create a basis for sailing around the world. Every purchase in the online shop directly supports our project. We knew that the path to the start would not be easy and would involve a lot of work. Whether our dream can become reality also depends on your support. We can only live our dream together with you.
The next questions we asked ourselves were: How do we get a boat? When do we want to start? And how long should the circumnavigation take?
The plan
We have planned to divide the Sailing Tide project into four phases:
- Buying a boat
- The boat refit
- The circumnavigation of the world
- The finale
We need your support to make our dream come true. We would therefore like to realize phases one and two with a crowdfunding campaign. We have decided that every purchase in the Refit Shop should also directly support the Sailing Tide project. This means that 10% of the proceeds from each purchase will go directly to the project. The buyer thus indirectly becomes a passive supporter with the amount.
When?
Phase 1: Scheduled to start in fall 2024, coinciding with the launch of the online shop.
Phase 2: Starts once the boat purchase is completed.
Phase 3: Starts after the completion of Phase 2, but not until 2026. We are planning a period of 5 years for the circumnavigation. Even though that may be a long time for many, we don't want to rush from place to place, but rather enjoy the experience to the fullest.
Phase 4: The finale (free sailing yacht) takes place immediately after Phase 3. You can read details about this highlight in the detailed description.
Since all phases of the project are only possible with your support, we would like to document our experiences via YouTube and let you share in the milestones.
How should the implementation of the individual phases look?

Description of the phases
We are planning to sail around the world in a 40-46 foot monohull boat. We have not yet decided which hull material we will choose - aluminum, steel or GRP. What is certain, however, is that the boat should be a reliable and safe companion on our journey. We also want to have enough space on board to be able to take friends, family and supporters with us on individual stages.
During this phase, we want to get to know our boat and bring it up to date with the latest technology ourselves. Tino, as a passionate craftsman, is particularly looking forward to this challenge. We will publish details of this process in our DIY blog.
Our goal is to make the boat as self-sufficient as possible. To achieve this, we plan to equip it with solar panels, a wind generator, a watermaker, new navigation technology and possibly an electric motor. We will also take into account everything necessary for refitting an older boat.
This phase also includes the purchase of all safety-relevant equipment for long-distance voyages, such as sails, rigging, dinghy, EPIRB and AIS.
Since we are no longer the youngest, we can also afford a few comforts, such as a washing machine or new mattresses.
After the refit, our boat will be suitable for long-distance cruising and in top condition.
This phase may still be a long way off, but we already have a clear idea of how we want to shape it.
We want to sail around the world along the barefoot route. We plan to take up to 5 years for this phase. During this time we want to document our journey on YouTube so that you have the opportunity to be there up close.
There will still be an opportunity to support us during this phase, via Patreon.
Our goal is to give back to some backers from the first two phases by inviting them on our boat. More details about this will be announced in the respective crowdfunding campaigns.
As a special thank you to our biggest supporter from Phases 1 and 2, we would like to gift our boat to that person. During Phase 3, the boat will be fully insured to ensure we can keep this promise.
In this way, we want to make our dream possible for someone who believed in us from the very beginning.
